C 111 & the new Mercedes-Maybach SL – A drive through the Monterey Car Week’s highlights.
- Hi everyone, my name is Riley Harper We are in Monterey, California and this is my version of Car Week with Mercedes-Benz! We’re going to test drive some really beautiful cars. We are going to see a world premier of a new vehicle. And we are going to finish it off with Concours d’Elegance. The first thing we are doing is this weekend, is hoping in this C111.
- This is the rotary engine version of this car, and I have been lucky enough to drive this. This will be the third time. First time was here in Monterey two years ago. I also drove it on the frozen lake in Switzerland. And this is now the first time driving the rotary engine version. Before we get into all the fine details, let’s just drive this thing.
- I forgot how small it is inside of here. Every time I see this guy he hands me really cool keys to cool cars. This engine is so different than the V8. You are one of the first people, probably the first guy not working at Mercedes-Benz that drove this car. I’m not kidding! I want to see the engine. Can you show it to us? It's the only Mercedes-Benz rotary powered car running in the world right now.
- You don’t have an engine that changes direction it just always spins in one direction. So, it is always smooth and doesn’t shake around very much. And we brought the V8 two years ago, you drove it. So, we had to one-up ourselves. And this is the most iconic version of this car because this is how it was originally intended.
- “Wankel” or rotary like you call it. Well, another one off the bucket list. Thank you! Just so everyone can hear this now - I am trying to convince Michael we do Mille Miglia again. 2025, now it is on camera. If enough people comment, we might as well. I stopped over at the Maybach Villa to check out some limited-edition Maybach, some classics, and of course, for the world premiere of the Mercedes-Maybach SL Monogram Series. I’ve always heard that Maybach are luxurious
- but driving this down highway one into big sur truly exceeded my expectations. It was a perfect California day. Morning everyone! Bright and early. It’s Sunday morning. We are on the 18th fairway at Pebble beach. I golfed here on Thursday and it is crazy to be standing here where I teed off and now there are just priceless cars everywhere you look.
- And now we are just going to enjoy the day and check it all out before we wrap this thing up. No matter how many times I come to the Concours at Pebble beach It blows me away! The cars that come from all around the world, the people and their crazy outfits - It really is a sight to be seen if you are a car lover.
